Budget 2026 to be delivered on May 28, government confirms
Finance Minister announces budget date.
Budget to be announced on the 28th of May.
The Government will deliver Budget 2026 on 28 May, setting out its financial plans and priorities for the year ahead, Finance Minister Nicola Willis has announced.
Ms Willis said this year’s Budget will focus on funding core public services, with particular emphasis on health care, education, defence, and law and order.
She said the Budget would reflect tight control of government spending, with funding directed toward a limited number of priority commitments.
“There will be no splashing the cash,” Ms Willis said.
The Finance Minister said careful management of public finances remains central to the Government’s approach, as it works to stabilise the books while continuing to fund essential services.
“Careful stewardship of public finances is essential to fixing the basics and building the future,” she said.
Ms Willis said savings and the reprioritisation of existing spending will again be key features of the Budget.
“These decisions are always tough, but they are necessary to ensure we can continue to fund the public services people rely on while getting the books back in order,” she said.
